NICE TO MEET YOU!
Jennifer Haffenden is a Canadian Screen Award-winning costume designer for film and television. Her first foray into design was hand sewing an apron at the age of four, when she became instantly hooked on the possibilities of taking flat fabric and shaping it into something that could transform a person into a drastically different character. Jennifer has earned a reputation for her authentic designs from past, present and future; for finessing the smallest details; and for her nuanced use of texture and colour. She is also known for doing immersive deep dives into research, and has a penchant for ageing and distressing costumes, and experimenting with Shibori and a variety of other dyeing techniques.
Jennifer's B.A.A. in Fashion Design and B.Comm. in Marketing gave her a fantastic foundation of skills and creative muscle. Her iconic costume designs for the fan favourite sci-fi series Wynonna Earp garnered her considerable attention. Jennifer loves pushing the envelope in a variety of genres, with designs running the gamut from the Masters of Horror anthology series Fear Itself, to the early 60s drama Fortunate Son, to children's theatre in Japan, to the stunt-laden scenes in the upcoming feature Wind River: The Next Chapter. Jennifer had the opportunity to combine her love of rodeo and romance when designing chaps, belt buckles, trick riding outfits and an entire denim line for the Ride TV series.
Recently Jennifer was thrilled to create animal costumes with a not-too-serious homemade aesthetic for the comedy short Now I am a Bear for acclaimed Screenwriter/Director Jason Filiatrault. And she’s excited to have just hopped on board to design Season 2 of Netflix’s hit series My Life with the Walter Boys.
